The One-computer Classroom

The One-computer Classroom

Its is not possible and always necessary to go to a computer lab to support language teaching with the modern technology. In the second part of the week I have read and discovered innovative ways of using computer in class. I found it interesting reading other teachers experiences in one-computer classroom. I highly appreciate the idea and suggestions of Natalia about "Self access center". I will establish my own resource center for my classes to visit and use anytime they want to.

  1. Dear Matej,

Thank you for sharing your views on one computer classroom. I agree with you that it is nor always possible to have one computer for each student in every classroom. But we can not deprive our students from the wonderful resources available on the web through the use of computers and the internet. In this consideration, the idea of one computer classroom sounds more realistic and feasible. We can offer very exciting learning opportunities to our learners by ensuring one computer for each class and by integrating the concept of learner autonomy in this class.

In Bangladesh, Ministry of Education has taken up a project to provide each class a computer and thus creating access for all school children to technology based learning. Even the government has decided to install solar power plants in schools of the areas where there is no electricity so that they can enjoy the advantages of technology in the classroom.

However, ensuring logistic support does not may not always ensure the success of such programs. Teachers must know how to successfully exploit the tools and resources offered by technology. In this regard the ideas discussed in week 7 about one computer classroom could be of great help. I hope in near future, the school children in Bangladesh will be able to get the best out of technology enhanced classroom.
